Biography
Tara Byrdsong holds a Master of Music in Flute performance from the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, where she studied with Mary Posses. She received her Bachelor of Music in Education from Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she studied with Christopher Vaneman.
As a scholarship recipient, Ms. Byrdsong attended the Brevard Music Center, the Bowdoin International Music Festival, and performed in Prague, Vienna, and England. Through her training at these fine institutions, she studied with and participated in the master classes of Paul Brittan, Christina Smith, Eric J. Hoover, Jennifer Nitchman, Ransom Wilson, Carl Hall, Jan Gippo, and Bart Feller.
After her formal training, Ms. Byrdsong taught middle school band in the Atlanta Public School System at Martin Luther King Middle School and Luther Judson Price Middle School, where she was voted Teacher of The Year in the 2015-2016 school year.
Ms. Byrdsong now resides in Mableton, GA, where she has an active career in teaching and performance. She is a member of Delta Omicron, the National Flute Association, the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), and The National Association for Music Education (MENC).
